WordPress Sharebar Plugin "status" Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Description   A vulnerability has been discovered in the Sharebar plugin for WordPress, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting attacks.
Input passed via the "status" parameter to wp-admin/options-general.php (when "page" is set to "Sharebar") is not properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in context of an affected site.
The vulnerability is confirmed in version 1.2.3. Other versions may also be affected.

Vulnerable Products   Vulnerable Software:

Solution   Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised. The vendor has also released a fix, however, the fix is ineffective.
